LEARNING OBJECTIVE
By the end of this course, you will be able to
Build a class-based ABAP report and CDS view in the ITLearnner SAP sandbox, not a theoretical exercise.
Architect object-oriented ABAP using classes, interfaces and exception handling the way production SAP systems actually structure logic.
Configure BAdI enhancements to extend standard SAP application behaviour without modifying the standard code.
Automate testing of your ABAP program using the transaction tools SAP developers use daily.
Justify your CDS view design to a technical reviewer, explaining the trade-offs behind each modelling decision.
TARGET LEARNER
Who this course is for
SAP developers deepening their ABAP skills who want OO-ABAP, CDS views, and BAdI enhancements applied to a real SAP sandbox not classroom theory.
IT professionals transitioning into SAP development roles within large organisations who need structured, mentor-reviewed coding experience to make the move credible.
Professionals targeting senior SAP ABAP developer or technical consultant positions who need a portfolio of real SAP development work to support the application.
If you see yourself in one of these, this course is built for you.
Prerequisites
What you need
Basic ABAP knowledge is required before joining this advanced course.
Experience with ABAP reports, internal tables, and SELECT statements is expected.
Access to the ITLearnner SAP sandbox system is required and is provided on enrolment.
A laptop with SAP GUI or SAP Business Client installed is needed.
Learners should be ready to progress into object-oriented ABAP and S/4HANA development.
COURSE OVERVIEW
What this course is about
SAP ABAP Advanced Programming is a structured, instructor-led programme for SAP developers who already know basic ABAP and want professional-grade development skills. The course covers object-oriented ABAP, CDS views, BAdI enhancements, and ALV reporting in depth, combining conceptual explanation with real coding tasks on a dedicated SAP sandbox throughout every session.
The programme runs across 14 one-and-a-half-hour live sessions over 7 weeks, progressing through ABAP syntax and the development environment, and core data types and internal tables before finishing with object-oriented ABAP, CDS views, BAdI enhancements, and debugging and performance. Every topic is applied directly on a live SAP system, not a slide deck.
Basic ABAP knowledge and experience with reports and internal tables are assumed throughout the course. A dedicated SAP sandbox is used from session one so learners are writing real development objects throughout, not just reading theory.
What the course covers:
Core ABAP: syntax, data types, variables, and internal tables.
Object-Oriented ABAP: classes, interfaces, and exception classes.
CDS Views: view techniques and annotations.
Enhancements: BAdI enhancements to standard SAP behaviour.
Reporting and Performance: ALV reports, debugging, and performance optimisation.
CIRRICULUM
7 Modules. 14 live Sessions. Hundreds of small wins.
The curriculum starts with ABAP syntax and the development environment, then moves through core data types and object-oriented ABAP before finishing with CDS views, BAdI enhancements, and debugging and performance.
01
ABAP Syntax and Development Environment
Learn the SAP development environment ABAP Workbench, transport system, and system landscape and apply that setup to write and execute your first ABAP report on the course sandbox system.
02
Data Types, Variables, and Internal Tables
Learn ABAP data types, work areas, and internal table operations LOOP, APPEND, READ TABLE and apply them to build data processing routines that manipulate real SAP table data.
03
Object-Oriented ABAP
Learn OO-ABAP classes, interfaces, inheritance, and exception classes and apply them to refactor your procedural ABAP into an object-oriented design that reflects the S/4HANA programming model.
04
CDS Views and Annotations
Learn CDS views and ABAP annotations the data layer that powers SAP Fiori and apply them to expose a real SAP database table as a CDS view with meaningful semantic annotations.
05
BAdI Enhancements
Learn SAP Business Add-Ins how to find, implement, and test BAdI enhancements and apply them to extend SAP standard functionality on the sandbox without modifying delivered SAP code.
06
ALV Reports and UI
Learn ALV Grid and List reporting field catalogue, layout configuration, event handling, and selection screens and apply them to build a production-quality ALV report for a real SAP business requirement.
07
Debugging and Performance
Learn ABAP debugging techniques and SQL performance optimisation index usage, SELECT optimisation, and internal table efficiency and apply them to diagnose and fix performance issues in your existing development.

FAQ
1
Who is this course designed for?
This course is designed for SAP developers with basic ABAP knowledge who want to progress to OO-ABAP, CDS views, BAdI enhancements, and production-quality ALV reports.
2
What prior experience do I need?
Basic ABAP knowledge internal tables, SELECT statements, and simple reports. Access to the ITLearnner SAP sandbox is provided on enrolment.
3
What will I be able to do by the end?
You will be able to write clean OO-ABAP using classes, interfaces, and inheritance, build and enhance CDS views for Fiori and reporting, implement BAdI enhancements, create ALV reports, and optimise and debug ABAP code in a professional SAP system.
4
How are the sessions structured?
Seven modules, 1.5 hours per session, 14 sessions over seven weeks. Real SAP sandbox development throughout every session.
5
What is EngagePro?
ABAP syntax cards, OO-ABAP design patterns, and SQL optimisation cheat sheets per session. Tasks involve writing real ABAP programs on the ITLearnner SAP sandbox. Ravi Kumar reviews every submission with code-quality commentary.
6

A laptop with internet access and SAP GUI or SAP Business Client. SAP sandbox access is provided on enrolment.
7
Will I receive a certificate?
Yes the ITLearnner SAP ABAP Advanced Development Certificate on completing the course.
8
What is the difference between ABAP and other SAP programming approaches?
ABAP (Advanced Business Application Programming) is SAP's proprietary language built specifically for developing and customising SAP applications. Unlike generic languages, ABAP is deeply integrated with the SAP data dictionary and runtime environment. This course covers modern ABAP including object-oriented ABAP and RESTful Application Programming Model, which are the current SAP development standards.
9
Does this course cover both classic and modern ABAP development?
Yes. The course bridges classic ABAP fundamentals with modern development approaches including ABAP Objects, ABAP RESTful Application Programming Model (RAP), and CDS views. This dual focus ensures you can work with established SAP landscapes while also building skills relevant to SAP S/4HANA and BTP environments.
10
What career roles does advanced ABAP programming lead to?
ABAP skills open doors to roles such as SAP ABAP Developer, SAP Technical Consultant, and SAP Solutions Architect. These are consistently among the highest-paid SAP roles in the UK and internationally, with strong demand from SAP partner organisations, large enterprise clients, and SAP implementation firms.
