What this course is about

Python Programming for Teens: Part 1 Foundations is a structured, instructor-led programme for learners aged 12 to 16, covering the core programming concepts assessed in GCSE Computer Science and building foundations relevant to PCEP entry-level Python topics. The course covers variables, control structures, functions, and data structures in depth, combining exam-relevant theory with four structured projects throughout every session.

The programme runs across 10 ninety-minute live sessions, progressing through core Python, control structures, and functions before finishing with data structures, algorithms, validation, and a set of four structured projects. Every topic is taught in the sequence GCSE Computer Science expects learners to understand it.

No prior Python or programming experience is required throughout the course. A Grade Calculator, Contact Manager, Password Validator, and Quiz Platform are built from session one so learners are producing working projects throughout, not just isolated exercises.

Establish strong foundations with Python variables, data types, and operators, covering the building blocks that appear in every GCSE programming task.

Master selection and iteration (the two most assessed areas in GCSE Computer Science) through structured practice with if/elif/else and both loop types.

Learn to write functions with parameters and return values, understand scope and reusability, and apply functions to decompose larger programs into manageable parts.

Work with Python lists and dictionaries to store and manage collections of data. A core GCSE requirement for programs involving records and sequences.

The Python Coding for Kids courses run at a pace and with project themes designed for ages 8 to 12. Python Programming for Teens – Part 1 covers the same core Python concepts but moves faster, uses more complex and exam-relevant project scenarios, and is explicitly aligned with GCSE Computer Science and entry-level Python certification topics. It is designed for learners aged 12 to 16 preparing for academic and professional programming milestones.
