- Course Overview
What this course is about
Ask better questions. Get real answers.
This course introduces young learners to SQL through detective-themed database challenges that make data querying feel like solving puzzles - not learning a programming language.
They don't just write queries. They investigate real data, find patterns, and present their findings at the ITLearnner Data Detective Challenge.
At ITLearnner, we keep learning clear, engaging, and practical. Every session builds the analytical thinking and data confidence that young learners carry into every STEM subject.

Frequently asked questions
1
Who is this course designed for?
SQL for Kids Foundation is designed for children aged 10 to 16 who enjoy logic, patterns, and finding answers. It requires no prior coding experience just curiosity about how data and databases work.
2
Why should my child learn SQL?
SQL is the language that powers every database on the planet from school systems to streaming services to social media. It teaches children to think logically about data, ask precise questions, and find answers. It is one of the most in-demand skills in any career that touches technology.
3
What will my child actually do in the sessions?
Your child writes real SQL queries against a pre-built Kids database from the very first session. Over 5 modules, they learn to retrieve, filter, sort, group, and join data finishing with the Data Detective Challenge, a SQL mystery they solve using everything they have learned.
4
How are the sessions conducted?
Sessions are 1.5 hours each, live and instructor-led online, over 5 weeks. The group is small, ensuring your child receives proper attention and guidance throughout.
5
What support is included?
Each module includes an EngagePro SQL challenge task reviewed by the course instructor. Enrolled students are also eligible for the quarterly ITLearnner Data Detective Challenge a database mystery that all SQL Kids students are invited to solve.
6
What equipment does my child need?
A computer with internet access and a browser is sufficient. We use an online SQL environment so there is no software to install.
7
How do you make SQL interesting for children?
Every concept is taught through a detective-themed challenge scenario. Your child is solving mysteries, not completing exercises. The Data Detective Challenge at the end of the course gives the whole journey a satisfying, game-like conclusion.
8
What happens if my child misses a session?
We offer flexible rescheduling so your child can catch up before the next module begins.
9
Will my child receive a certificate?
Yes. On completing the course, your child receives the ITLearnner SQL Foundation Certificate, which evidences real data literacy skills.
10
How does SQL help with future learning and careers?
SQL is foundational for careers in data analysis, software development, and data science. Children who understand databases have a significant advantage in secondary school computing, and the logical thinking SQL teaches transfers directly to maths, science, and problem-solving across subjects.
